Company Profile
My name is Laudemio Frescobaldi and I’m a culinary wonder.
In the Middle Ages, Laudemio was the name of the best part of the harvest, destined for the landlord’s table. It originated from the Latin word “laude”, which meant with praise, excellence. Today, the Laudemio Frescobaldi represents the highest expression of extra virgin olive oil.
My symbol: An Etruscan athlete. The Etruscans were a civilization of ancient Italy (circa years 900 to 20 before Christ) that lived in the area corresponding roughly to today’s Tuscany. The image symbolises health and physical fitness, through a healthy lifestyle and therefore food.
My aspiration is to participate in the culinary discoveries of every food lover in every corner of the world.
My character: a unique emerald-green and robust extra virgin olive oil. The benchmark of the typical aromas of Tuscany: scents of just mown grass, followed by artichoke heart and green olive notes. The flavour is remarkably balanced between a very notable bitterness, with sparkling spiciness and a long-lasting fruitiness.
My goal is to offer the highest standards of excellence as an Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil, recognised by experts the world over.
My belief: I was born in an agricultural family and therefore we believe that our most sacred asset is our land, Tuscany.
My family owns approximately 300 hectares (741 acres) of olive groves at different altitudes between 200 and 500 meters (650 and 1650 feet). The layers of the terroir and the microclimate allow the olive trees to bear some of the most unique fruit because of the intensity of its nutritional and organoleptic values.
In October, and never after November, the olives are picked early in the ripening season, when blushing from green to purple, to capture the emerald-green colour and fresh flavours. The olives are pressed within a few hours from picking, in the Frescobaldi’s mill, in Castello Nipozzano. These key processes ensure the ideal composition: perfect low acidity, a great aromatic profile and numerous health properties. Frescobaldi ultimately makes a rigid selection and only the finest extra virgin olive oil is selected to become Laudemio Frescobaldi.
My Heritage: I was born in the Frescobaldi family and have inherited a deep, ancestral connection to Tuscany and its history from them. The history of the Frescobaldi family starts over a thousand years ago and is closely connected with the history of Tuscany. At the high point of medieval Florence, Frescobaldi spread their influence as bankers, earning the title of treasures to the English crown. With the flowering of the Renaissance, they became patrons of major works in Florence, such as the construction of the Santa Trinita bridge and the Basilica of Santo Spirito. For 30 generations the Frescobaldi family has combined tradition, experience and innovation with creativity and the pursuit of excellence.
Cultinvating Toscana Diversity: The Frescobaldi Group is a family-owned leading Italian agricultural company specialized in fine wine and olive oil. The Frescobaldi name carries with it the on-going responsibility of cultivating the best of Tuscan diversity, through:
i. Sustainable cultivation of the land to produce products which perfectly represent and fully illustrate the diversity of the family estates;
ii. Communicating and promoting the culture of Tuscany and its different territories, through our Estates, our products and specific value-enhancing projects.
My History:
• 1000: Origins of the Frescobaldi family in Tuscany;
• 1300: The Frescobaldi family begins to produce fine wines and olive oil in their Tuscan estates
• 1985: a very cold winter, with temperatures down to -25°C froze 90% of olive groves in Tuscany. To restart there was the need for a great vision…
o The Frescobaldis’ great vision was that, in order to relaunch the production of Tuscan olive oil, producers had to differentiate through excellence
o At the time, there was no differentiation between olive oils through brands or certifications of quality
o Frescobaldi decided to establish the first brand of high quality in the history of the olive oil industry with specific origin and production policies
o Frescobaldis’ vision had been well ahead of national and European legislation
• 1986: foundation of the brand Laudemio
• April 1986: H.R.H. Charles Prince of Wales planted an olive tree in Frescobaldi estate, Castello Nipozzano
• 1989: first harvest of Laudemio
• 2019: 30th anniversary
My Manifesto: The first time was on an ordinary day, in haste, almost by chance. Eyes met, and time stopped. It was the discovery that all the charm of the world is enclosed in an instant. Silent and magnificent. A limpid and bright instant that changed everything that one already knew. Do you remember? Of course, you do. How could you forget the moment that changed everything, the moment that made the ordinary extraordinary, that made the opaque shine, that gave flavor to an ordinary day? It’s like the moment when we first met.
