Company Profile
OUR HISTORY.
The Cataldi family has its origins in the ancient city of Norcia located in Umbria in one of Italy's most beautiful natural parks, the Monti Sibillini Park.
The nursine method of processing meat has a long history: the first findings of tools used by the 'norcini' (those who process pork) date back as far as 500 B.C. and, to this day, are exhibited in the Castellina museum in Norcia.
In fact, the Norcia area has always been particularly favourable to pig breeding, thanks to the large green areas surrounding the ancient city walls of Norcia.
The men and women of the Cataldi family have handed down the art of 'norcino' from father to son. Mario Cataldi, born in 1928, as a young man moved to Rome during the winter months, where he was hired by local delicatessens to work the meat, while in summer he returned to his country to cultivate the land.
In 1979, also thanks to David and Agostino, Mario's sons, our company was born with the name 'Patrizi' in honour of his wife and mother Almerina Patrizi.
Later, in 1990, our company was completely renovated: the modernisation, while leaving the traditional methods of selection and meat and the use of natural ingredients for processing unchanged, allowed us to search for and obtain higher quality products.
Then came the 2016 earthquake, which severely affected our territory, taking away a lot to our family: in fact, this event completely destroyed our company, putting our passion and morale to the test.
Despite everything, we reacted with great courage to these difficulties and saw the tragedy of the earthquake as an opportunity to rethink, invest and innovate.
After six years, our new ham factory 're-emerged' with a new architectural look and state-of-the-art equipment. We have, however, preserved the traditions in the production process and today we are enthusiastic about producing high quality products, recognised nationally by one of the most important magazines in the food and wine sector, the 'Gambero Rosso'. Because our mission has always been this: to let those who buy our products share moments of absolute culinary pleasure, allowing them to enjoy the unique taste of what we produce.
