Company Profile
Creators of the authentic River Mentana "venetian gin", Rime Craft Distillers represents the fifth generation of the Maschio dynasty, master distillers for almost two centuries, in the heart of the Tre Venezie. The production - entrusted to Michela Maschio together with her children Giovanna, Olimpia and Giacomo - is completely artisanal, and in genuine pursuit of perfection, Rime Craft Distillers is daily devoted to remaining faithful to the great distillation tradition of the Venetian territories. The idea of a "Venetian dry gin" is born from a monobotanical gin recipe based on juniper berries, produced by Domenico "Memi" Maschio in the 1940's. It was Domenico who chose to create a gin that was not dictated by the botanicals but rather, as done with the great whiskeys, by ancient wheat, a raw material with nuances that allow the juniper to convey the full range of its aromatic expressions. From that intuition a natural gin was born, with perfect molecular balance. In the family, research is focused on the raw materials, beginning with the territory. The juniper berries, rich in elegant aromas, are harvested between Venice and the Cansiglio forest (the “Gran Bosco da Reme”), from whose beech trees the timber for the fleet of the Serenissima was obtained. The cereals for the alcoholic base, on the other hand, were selected by going downstream along the Piave river, where a cultivation of Mentana wheat grows: fragrant and creamy, with a natural, marked salinity enhanced by the soil in which it grows. Hence the name River Mentana is explained: “River” defines both the diamonds coming from rivers, the purest and most transparent, and the Piave along whose course the history of gin unfolds. An identity that has been epitomized in a treasured label, which is inspired by the gold mosaics of the ceilings of the Saint Mark's Basilica and the cerulean tones radiating from the waters of the Lagoon.
