Company Profile
The story of the brand “Adelfio” goes back to 1931, when a young man from Palermo goes to Marzamemi to take part in the “Mattanza” (ancient tuna fishing method). Back then the small village in southern Sicily was one of the most flourishing places for red tuna and blue fish fishing and transformation.
Gaetano, the current owner’s grandfather, was a capable producer and each summer he took part in the fishing season. Then in the ‘70s Francesco, the son, both for love and for work, decided to definitely move to Marzamemi and take care of the production annually.
Today we are at the third generation with Gaetano, who leads his workers to preserve the traditional methods of local fish transformation, from specialty products such as red tuna ventresca and bottarga to delicious blue fish filets like mackerel.
We have always pursued the best raw material, by carefully selecting fish at the port in person in order to enter our factory. For what concerns the evolution of red tuna fishing, after the closing of the Tonnara in Marzamemi and the end of spear fishing, we now comply with the fixed percentage set by the European Union.
The story of our family, the selection of high quality raw material, only fished within the FAO 37 area, the preservation of blue fish traditional processing methods, the partnership with responsible fishing vessels, the respect of marine environment, is what guides us and what we bring to our customers' table as well as our retailers’ shops, both in Italy and the biggest European markets, such as France and Germany.
Because just like a strong wind, so is our desire to preserve the real product that's born from the transformation and tradition of red tuna.
