Company Profile
Since 1833, Tenuta Castello, a family-run business, has had its headquarters in the Castle of Desana, in the Province of Vercelli.
The farm covers 400 hectares, of which 120 are cultivated with rice, including organic rice.
Its main business is the cultivation of Carnaroli Classico, also organic: Tenuta Castello takes care of its rice from the sowing to the selling, from the soil to the table.
Why is it called Classic? The Classic name means that the rice is 100% Carnaroli and not other similar varieties, which are sold with the wording “Carnaroli.”
Since 2018, the Italian National Rice Authority has formed the supply chain of the Classic Carnaroli farmers, which certifies the true and unique Carnaroli.
Tenuta Castello's Classic Carnaroli has an excellent cooking yield, and it doesn't get easily overcooked, thanks to its handicraft rice mill from the early 1900s, where the Carnaroli is hulled with a soft stone processing. The Carnaroli “Tenuta Castello” is not white, because the grains are slightly shelled so as to keep the last husks on the grains. So we have more taste, more fibre, no overcooked dishes, and a lower glycemic index.
Uglier but better, better but uglier!
