Company Profile
It is 1820 and a royal decree establishes the end of rice growing in South Italy. The paddy fields had been implanted, according to the legend, by Alfonso of Aragon after the conquest of the Reign of Naples (1443).Spanish soldiers began to cultivate rice in the swamps created by the flooding of Sele river. It was such an exquisite rice to be eaten at court and to inspire writers, poets and gastronomes. Today, after 200 years, rice is back to the South of Italy. With the most innovative and sustainable techniques, Hera nei Campi carries out an Agreement that involves rice farmers of the South and the University of Naples Federico II. Together they present an absolute novelty in the world of rice: the grain MAGNUM. The climate and temperature of the cultivation area influence the growth of rice plants and the size of the grains. If the current Italian rice cultivations constitute the northernmost area in the world where rice is grown, it goes without saying that with more favorable weather conditions, the same varieties have a different yield, the most evident is the size.
