Company Profile
At the beginning of the 20th century, Sante Giarola, a young man from Verona of rural origins, also left for America.
After enormous sacrifices he returned to his beloved Italy with a trunk, a pickaxe and a small nest egg in his pocket. The land he managed to purchase today generates fine wines, whose excellence and uniqueness are recognized throughout the world.
For one hundred years the lands of the Giarola family have been cultivated with vineyards, a century of stories, traditions, teachings, a heritage of values, handed down from generation to generation.
The history of the Giarola family dates back to the last century when they began cultivating their own vineyards on the slopes and valleys of the morainic hills. A common project of passion for the vine handed down from father to son. In 1968 Umberto Giarola began the vinification of his grapes, to see the work of his master father completed, finally collect the juice of that fruit and give it a name. Finally, wines under the “Giarola” brand are born. Today Umberto's sons, Michele and Valeriano hold the reins of the company. There have been many developments from the 90s to today, from the vineyards to the cellar, a perfect combination of tradition and innovation.
The Giarola farm is located in Palazzolo di Sona, province of Verona, near Lake Garda. On the clearest days, you can glimpse the glimmer of the lake's water from the Monte Cristo vineyards.
The mild and temperate climate and the strategic position of the Garda hinterland are the determining elements that led to the D.O.C. denomination. and D.O.C.G. of the company's production land.
The beauty of the vine is that it is one of the most resistant and adaptable climbing plants in the plant kingdom and one of the most widely cultivated plants in our country.
It all started from the cellar under the house, where Umberto Giarola jealously guarded a small production of wine, in some barriques and bulk wine tanks. The first customers were mainly private individuals, but given the proximity to the lake, the first foreigners also arrived, taking Giarola abroad.
Today the structure of the cellar allows for delicate winemaking and perfect maturation of the wines, thanks to an ideal temperature. The cellar is fundamental in completing the work born in the vineyards. After the harvest, each bunch is checked and selected before vinification, conservation and refinement. Tradition and innovation are the perfect combination between Umberto and Valeriano Giarola, two generations of oenologists who together manage to ennoble the peculiar qualities of each grape variety during winemaking, trying to enhance the aromatic notes given by the refinement in wooden or barrels. steel. Quality productions have led Giarola to export to 25 countries around the world.
